Garage Lighting in DFW

Your garage is often the first thing neighbors and visitors see. Exterior garage lighting — wall sconces, soffit downlights, and driveway illumination — adds security, curb appeal, and a polished, finished look to your home’s front face.

Don’t Let Your Garage Be the Dark Spot on Your Home

In most DFW homes, the garage takes up a significant portion of the front facade — often 30–40% of the street-facing elevation. Yet it’s frequently the least-lit part of the exterior: a dark void with a couple of builder-grade carriage lights that look dated and cast insufficient light. Bernardy Lighting transforms garage exteriors with purpose-built lighting systems that integrate with your home’s overall design.

Exterior garage lighting serves three critical functions: security (eliminating the dark zone that allows approach without detection), safety (illuminating the driveway for arrivals after dark), and curb appeal (making the garage door and surrounding architecture look as considered and finished as the rest of your home). Our designs address all three simultaneously.

Whether your garage is a single-car side-entry or a three-car front-facing bay, we design lighting that works with your specific architecture — recessed soffit lights flush above the garage door, flanking wall sconces at proper eye height, driveway downlighting from above, and, where applicable, under-column accent lights that frame the garage opening.

Garage Lighting Solutions We Install

Soffit Recessed Downlights

LED fixtures core-drilled into the soffit above your garage door cast clean downward light across the driveway approach — bright enough for safe arrival, designed to complement the architecture.

Garage Door Flanking Sconces

Wall-mounted sconces on either side of the garage door frame provide symmetrical, eye-level light that defines the garage opening and creates visual balance across the facade.

Driveway Approach Lighting

In-ground, bollard, or tree-mounted downlights along the driveway illuminate the entire approach from street to garage — functional for nighttime arrivals and dramatic for curb appeal.

Column & Pillar Accent Lights

Recessed or surface-mounted fixtures on garage columns, brick pillars, or porte-cocheres add architectural accent that separates the garage bay from the surrounding facade.

Motion-Activated Security Lighting

Integrated motion sensors trigger bright-level response when movement is detected near the garage — providing deterrence and safety without always-on harsh floodlight appearance.

Side-Entry & Courtyard Lighting

For side-entry garages, we illuminate the turning area, courtyard, and approach path — ensuring safe navigation from the street to the garage regardless of arrival time.

Benefits of Exterior Garage Lighting

  • Security and deterrence — a well-lit garage area eliminates concealment opportunities and deters opportunistic theft and trespassing
  • Safe nighttime arrivals — illuminated driveway and garage approach prevent accidents, curb strikes, and missed turns after dark
  • Unified facade appearance — garage lighting designed to match your home’s overall lighting system creates a cohesive, designed exterior
  • Package security — bright garage and front driveway lighting deters porch pirates and makes your deliveries visible from inside
  • Evening curb appeal — for listed homes, first impressions after dark matter; a lit garage transforms the street view in listing photos
  • Smart integration — garage lighting can be set on separate schedules, dimmed for ambient evening use, or triggered by motion for security response

Serving All of DFW

We install garage lighting throughout Dallas-Fort Worth including Lewisville, Flower Mound, Southlake, Westlake, Frisco, Plano, Colleyville, Grapevine, Highland Village, Trophy Club, Highland Park, University Park, and all surrounding communities.

DFW’s new construction tends to feature large garage footprints that dominate the front elevation — making proper garage lighting especially important for the overall exterior presentation. Garage lighting can give a home’s front elevation more depth and definition after dark.

Garage Lighting FAQ

Can you replace my existing carriage lights with recessed soffit lighting?

Yes — we frequently convert homes from builder-grade carriage lights to recessed soffit fixtures that provide much better light distribution and a cleaner, more modern look. We can retain one pair of flanking sconces if desired while adding soffit downlights for primary illumination.

Will garage lighting interfere with my garage door opener?

No — low-voltage LED landscape lighting operates on a completely separate system from your 120V garage door opener and has no electromagnetic interference issues. Smart lighting systems also operate on different frequency bands than garage door remotes.

Can I integrate garage lighting with my existing landscape lighting system?

Typically yes — we assess your existing transformer capacity and add garage zone fixtures as an expansion, or create a separate zone on a secondary transformer. Most homeowners prefer garage lighting on its own timer so it can run on a different schedule than landscape lights.

How bright should exterior garage lighting be?

Bright enough for safe driveway navigation and security visibility — typically 400–800 lumens per fixture for soffit downlights. We use dimmable fixtures so you can run bright levels for arrivals and reduce to ambient levels for evening atmosphere.

Do you install lighting for detached garages and workshop buildings?

Yes — detached garages, workshops, pool houses, and guest houses all benefit from proper exterior lighting. We design systems that treat outbuildings as secondary structures with their own coherent lighting plan that complements the main home.
