The Complete Pool Lighting Experience
In DFW’s premium pool communities — Southlake, Westlake, Flower Mound, and Trophy Club — a pool without lighting is an afterthought. Pool lighting is what separates a swimming pool from a resort-style backyard experience. Bernardy Lighting designs above-ground pool-area lighting for decks, patios, surrounding landscapes, and architectural features, with controls specified for the selected system.
We work around existing pools and new construction, coordinating the approved above-ground fixture placement, wiring routes, transformer location, and compatible controls when specified. Whether you want a single color of warm white or RGBW color-changing drama, we spec the system to match your lifestyle.
Pool lighting also serves critical safety functions. Proper illumination of pool edges, steps, and surrounding decking prevents accidents and allows you to clearly see swimmers in the water after dark. Our designs balance ambiance with visibility — you never have to choose one over the other.
Pool Lighting We Install
Pool-Deck Accent Lighting
Above-ground, water-adjacent fixtures can provide comfortable pool-deck visibility and reflected ambiance without in-pool electrical work.
Pool Deck Step Lights
Recessed or surface-mounted lights on pool steps and coping mark the water’s edge clearly for safety while adding subtle ambient light to the surrounding deck area.
Surrounding Landscape Lighting
Uplights on palms, ornamental trees, and shrubs around the pool create depth and backdrop — transforming your pool area into a complete outdoor scene rather than just a lit water feature.
Pergola & Pavilion Lighting
String lights, recessed downlights, or pendant fixtures in poolside structures extend the entertainment zone and create a warm, resort-like environment for evening gatherings.
Spa & Water Feature Lighting
Above-ground accent fixtures can highlight the surroundings of spas and water features when included in the approved project scope.
Color-Changing Pool Systems
RGBW systems let you set the mood — vivid blue for a Mykonos feel, green for tropical nights, white for elegant entertaining, or dynamic color cycling for parties.
Benefits of Professional Pool Lighting

Pool Lighting FAQ
Can you add above-ground lighting around an existing pool?
Yes — retrofitting an existing pool with Pool-Deck Accent Lighting is possible in most cases. We assess your pool’s construction type and coordinate with a licensed pool electrician for the underwater portion. Surrounding landscape lighting is always addable regardless of pool age.
Is pool lighting safe?
Properly installed pool lighting is completely safe. All underwater fixtures are specifically rated for submersible use and installed according to NEC code requirements, including proper bonding and GFCI protection. We only work with certified, code-compliant fixtures.
How many above-ground pool-area fixtures do I need?
Most residential pools need 2–4 underwater fixtures for even coverage. Larger pools, spas, or those with waterfalls may need additional fixtures to illuminate all zones adequately. We calculate this based on your pool’s square footage and geometry.
Can I control the pool lights from my phone?
Compatible RGBW systems can provide app-based controls for available color, brightness, and scheduling features. Capabilities depend on the selected product and project scope.
Do you coordinate with pool builders for new construction?
Absolutely — we frequently collaborate with DFW pool builders and landscape contractors on new construction projects. Early coordination allows us to plan conduit routing, transformer placement, and zone design before decking is poured.
